New Year’s Day saw a great turnout for a game of shinny on the gully next to the old ski hill on Marine Lab Road in Logy Bay. For those who are not familiar with a ‘shinny’, it is an informal pick-up hockey game on a pond with few rules and often no goaltender as seen in the picture above. It is more than a game of hockey; it is sharing a recreation activity with family and friends. Some were playing while others just skated around or watch and cheered from the sidelines.
