SFOA K-2 Students' Wonderful Harvest of Pumpkins - October 18.
The annual St. Francis of Assisi K-2 student visit to the Great Pumpkin Patch happened on October 18. Students and teachers first visited Rita and John Kennedy’s Garden down the road from the school to learn about the composting process, the variety of vegetables grown locally, and storing vegetables in a root cellar. They then crossed the street to the Kelly Park Community Garden to see their pumpkin patch, planted last May, and learn more about growing pumpkins. Students harvested their pumpkins and brought them back to their classrooms. Farming and gardening firsthand! Photos by Tanya Sacrey, SFOA School Twitter. On hand to help were some of our Association volunteers: Rita and John Kennedy, Sally Goddard, and Karen Youden Walsh.
A Spooktacular Time Sunday at the Town’s Trunk or Treat, October 30
It was a great family day at Kelly Park on Sunday, with so many great costumes and lots of treats for the children. Thank you everyone for visiting our trunk and dropping off food items and cash for the Northeast Foodbank. We are happy to report that we delivered 7 very large bags of food and $58 in cash to the foodbank. NEAFB thanks everyone for their generosity and asked us to remind everyone that overall donations are down compared to this time last year. Many thanks to board member Dale Hutchens for organizing our trunk. Thanks also to Town staff, Allison Whitty, for organizing such a great event.
